SMITTY
Because of Smity's unique behavioral issues it took some time for PRoNE volunteers to match a family with his needs. In March 2008 that family came along. Below is an email from his happy new owner.
Dear PRoNE: Smitty’s first couple of days home were pretty quiet. He didn’t do much of anything except sleep and cuddle. He finally found his voice and barked for the first time on day four, and hasn‘t been too shy since. We were a little apprehensive about him meeting my grandson, age 4, but it worked out very well. Christian hand fed Smitty on his first night home, and Smitty was fine with him after that. They play very well together. The next step was for Smitty to meet my parent's miniature dachshound. Again, we were a little nervous, and again, they got along just fine. I’ve been trying to take Smitty for walks each day, but just like our previous two pugs, we get several houses up the block and that’s the end of walking. Back home we go, and he runs around the yard instead. It’s still exercise. Smitty just met his new vet on Friday. He had his eyes checked, and we were told that the entropion surgery was perfect. There is absolutely no scarring at all. He’ll need his eye drops each day, and that’s just fine, not a big deal. Turns out that Smitty is a bit overweight though, so he’s on a diet, and he’s doing just fine with that as well. We promise we’ll take very good care of Smitty, he’s already a little spoiled. We’d also like to thank Karin & Tom for taking such fine care of him during his stay with them, and believing in us when we said that we really did want him. Smitty‘s a great little pug, and he now has a permanent home as a member of our family. I can’t imagine why anyone would not want to keep him. Perhaps they were really just unaware of what a pug really is. Again, thank you so much. We just love him. The Smalley Family
