| PRoNE volunteers raised $1,400+ for Sophie & Spider with their Spring Yankee Candle Fundraiser UPDATE: Sophie & Spider have been adopted into loving forever homes. If you are interested in adopting Sophie or Spider please contact: Shawna McAlearney 617-233-5707 smmcalearney@yahoo.com Both Sophie and Spider have a liver problem called a "shunt". This shunt makes it difficult for their livers to filter toxins - like ammonia - from going into their brain. What it means in Sophie & Spider's day to day life is that they are a bit excited at times and depressed at others because they just don't feel right. They are also a little clumsy and require expensive daily medication to maintain them. Unfortunately, medication is not a lifelong solution. Over time, the vet says the liver shunts can lead to irreversible brain damage. However, Sophie & Spider's problems are completely curable with surgery. Unfortunately, these surgeries are very expensive, and Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) participated in the Yankee candle fundraiser to raise money to help these little darling pugs. Sophie & Spider were surrendered due to a home foreclosure and an inability to afford their special diet or surgery. They will be living in foster homes with people who care while undergoing treatment. Then, if all goes well, Sophie & Spider will be placed in loving forever homes. At only 2 years old, Sophie & Spider have a long life ahead of them, and would love to be healthy like other dogs so they can run and play all the time. They cannot be adopted until they are well and they would really love a forever home. |
